Plastic-Aesthetic surgery is a big business. That's why it is nearly impossible to find independent, unbiased information on this topic in the media. There are surgeons and clinics that will do almost anything to advertise themselves: post fake reviews on Internet boards, vilify the competitors and sometimes even conduct unnecessary or risky treatments. This informative website has been created with the help of public funding (especially thanks to EU funds for regional cooperation) with the aim to explain the possibilities and dangers in real light and to give competent advice to those interested.

We are based in Central Europe and we also introduce this region as a destination for medical tourism.

If you have any questions, please visit our discussion board (forum). Most probably, you will find the answer to your question already there. If not, please sign up and join the discussion. The specialists answering your inquiries are independent – we do not allow anyone to promote him or herself. Please read the Forum Rules first.

Treatments and prices

Considering the similar (or rather equal) level of plastic surgeons at prestigious clinics across the continent, the single most important reason for which patients are ready to fly for their treatment to another country is price.

And oh – did we say prestigious clinics? In Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, almost every private clinic can be considered prestigious – and for sure those listed on this website. The reason is relatively high price of the treatments comparing to average income in Central European countries and the fact that the few private plastic surgery clinics here are attracting the best surgeons.

Well, so what is the typical price of the most common treatments that you should expect? We are listing the treatments with their respective average prices in British Pounds and Euro (according to exchange rate of 1.1525 EUR per GBP).

What are the dangers?

Any type of plastic surgery is a serious interference with your body’s systems and as such it poses certain risks and dangers. The first risk is anesthesia: it is absolutely necessary to make sure your anesthesiologist is just as skilled as your surgeon. Complications during full anesthesia are extremely rare, but if they occur they may result in severe consequences. In such case, having a good anesthesiologist is simply question of life and death.

Second danger of plastic surgery is possible excessive bleeding or creation of blood-clots. This and other similar complications should be prevented by complete pre-surgical medical evaluation.

Differences between plastic surgery in the UK and Central Europe

There is no big difference in the way patients are being treated at Central European plastic surgery clinics and their UK counterparts. One would probably find more differences between the UK and USA, but the top Central European surgeons are usually trained in more than one western EU country (often including the United Kingdom) and private clinics are most often (unlike the state-run hospitals) equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Face lift

Facelift (also called Rhytidectomy) is a very common type of plastic surgery, but in the same time one of the most sophisticated and hard-to-perform ones. As a rule, facelift is performed for esthetic reasons.
With ageing, the face tissue is losing its elasticity and wrinkles, sagging and loose skin start to occur. This process can be pronounced in some individuals as a result of inherited genetic traits, damage by UV radiation (usually excessive exposure to sun), or exposure to certain chemicals (typical for certain professions).

Although facelift is usually performed on individuals over 45 years of age, being younger does not disqualify one from undergoing this procedure.
In classical facelift, the facial skin is separated from the underlying tissue, stretched and reconnected, while the excess skin is removed. This must be done gradually and slowly – as a result, rhytidectomy is also one of the longest-lasting surgical procedures in plastic surgery. Facelift may also include the manipulation with tissue layer called SMAS, although some surgeons hold the opinion that SMAS should not be repositioned or partly removed if not absolutely necessary (this is one point you should discuss with your surgeon).
